How many calories are in a vape?
In practice: almost none.
E-liquid contains a small amount of calories on paper (because PG and VG are used in food), but when you vape, you inhale the aerosol rather than eat it. That means your body absorbs virtually zero usable calories, so vaping doesn’t meaningfully add calories to your diet.
Why do people think vapes have calories?
Because the main ingredients in e-liquid propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG) do have calories when swallowed. PG is about 4 kcal per gram and VG about 4.3 kcal per gram.
But vaping isn’t the same as eating: most of that energy isn’t absorbed through the lungs in any meaningful way.
Do sweet flavours mean sugar or extra calories?
Not usually. Standard e-liquids don’t contain sugar, and even when sweeteners are used, they don’t translate into calorie intake the way food does. So a sweet vape may taste like candy, but it won’t affect your calorie count like eating something sweet.
Can vaping affect weight anyway?
Calories aren’t the main factor. Vaping itself doesn’t add meaningful calories, but nicotine can influence appetite and metabolism for some people (similar to smoking). The effect varies person to person and isn’t about calorie intake from the vape.
Bottom line
- E-liquid has calories on paper
- Your body absorbs almost none when vaping
- Vaping won’t meaningfully affect your daily calorie intake
